Press Release Publishing Help
A press release contains several standard elements. Each element is important in order to construct a proper press release. Below are common fields & questions that are presented during the creation of a media release.
Title: The title of your press release. The title is important and should be unique and relevant to draw attention to the press release and encourage wider distribution. Keywords: Keywords are often used to index a press release and to improve search results. Snippet: Write a short description or overview of the press release. This text is used as promotional content to introduce your press release and encourage click-throughs to read the entire press release. Location: The location of the event, company or source of the press release. Be as specific as possible. Common formatting is to identify the City & State from which the source of the press release comes from. Example: NY, New York Category: Add your press release to an appropriate category. Categories are helpful in indexing press releases and assisting readers in locating the types of press releases that are of interest. Press Release Body: This is the main body of the press release. This is where the press release is written and should present readers with the news at hand. A common mistake made by sources is to write press releases that are too long. A press release need not be lengthy and should, in fact, be concise and no more than 3-5 paragraphs in length. The purpose of an online press release should be to quickly announce news and offer readers a way to learn more. Contact Name: Every press release must contain the contact name of the news source. This is important because others, including media sources may wish to contact the source for further information. A contact name reveals the person responsible for the press release. Company Name: Add validity to press releases by including a company name where applicable. Phone #: Add even more validity to a press release by providing a telephone number for those interested in learning more by contacting the source directly via phone. Fax #: If your business or company has a fax number, it can be used as a supplementary contact method. Email: A valid email address is required to be published with each press release. The email address should direct readers to either the person responsible for submitting the release or to a person of contact relevant to the information contained within the release. Web Site: A web site provides a way for readers to leave the press release and visit the actual online source. The benefits of this should be obvious. The format should be http://mywebsite.com or http://www.mywebsite.com. Web Site Name: Enter the title or name of the web site. An example would be "My Site". The news wire will use the web site name when generating links back to the source.
