Write an Effective Press Release Title

The title of the media release is perhaps more important than the press release itself. With so many titles and so much content vying for readership around the web it is important to stand out from the rest.

An online news release title should always be unique. Unique titles (and content as well) are sought by major search engines and have a greater chance of being included in search results pages. Whereas, duplicate titles (content) may be excluded from search results or may not rank very well which may make it harder for interested readers to find.

During wide distribution to potential readers, an effective and well written title can also encourage readers to visit the press release which in turn will lead to more traffic to the news source.

Here are some basic keys when writing a new press release title.
  1. Always conduct a search via the internet to see if the title already exists.
  2. Keep it short and to the point. Long titles may discourage visits.
  3. Make use of one or two keywords within the title. A keyword is a phrase or word that those searching the internet may use to find information.
  4. Include the name of the person or organization providing the press release within the title when possible.
  5. Write the title as factual. Avoid writing copy that appears to read as an advertisement.
  6. Make it interesting and give readers a reason to visit the press release.
  7. Keep the title relevant to the content within the press release.
  8. Avoid the use of symbols, brackets, parenthesis, hypens, commas, colons and periods in the title.
Following those simple tips when writing a media release title will give any press release the energy it needs to be successful, draw attention and drive more traffic to the news source.
